Without caring mentors, positive youth development just doesn’t happen. At The First Tee, we take coaching seriously. We believe that a meaningful, quality relationship between coach and participant is vital to our program.
“Young people don’t care what a coach knows until they know a coach cares.”
The First Tee of Pikes Peak Volunteer program helps young people discover their unique talents and dreams, equip them with life-enhancing values and skills to achieve their goals through mentoring, and inspire them to become leaders that transform their families and community.
We’re Looking for You!
Nationwide, we currently have more than 3,700 coaches signed up with The First Tee, including PGA and LPGA pros, as well as volunteers. But you don’t have to be a golf pro or even a good golfer. With The First Tee Coach Program, we provide the training you need.
Developed with input from leading experts in the field of positive youth development, our program focuses on empowering participants through decision-making and exploring options. This helps foster positive relationships between coaches and young people, inspiring the golfers of tomorrow to look to the future, set goals, and unlock their potential.
At The First Tee of Pikes Peak participants learn to:
- Empower youth to make decisions by thinking about consequences
- Build rapport and establish positive relationships
- Nurture golf and life skills development
The First Tee Coaches are trained to
- Introduce themselves
- Manage emotions
- Resolve conflict
- Set step-by-step goals
- Plan for the future
- Appreciate diversity
Our committed volunteer based has helped us reach over 1,500 young people in 2015 including eight school outreach opportunities, 17 community outreach events, and an additional 615 program participants.
Make an Impact Off the Course
One of the primary factors for our success and growth in the community has come from volunteers committing their time and dedication to changing lives through The First Tee of Pikes Peak. Volunteers at The First Tee of Pikes Peak are part of an outstanding team. They help us provide a high quality experience and exceptional service to our participants and their families.
We currently have a volunteer base of nearly 60 committed volunteers that assist us in various roles within the organization.
We need more than coaches to make The First Tee possible. We rely on volunteers — sometimes year round — to accomplish our mission, and not all of those goals involve golf; we need support off the course as well. Opportunities include:
- In-school programming
Each volunteer opportunity at The First Tee of Pikes Peak provides an avenue to connect and work towards the same goal: to help young people discover their best swings and most importantly best selves. All the roles play a significant part in the success and future growth of the chapter and we can’t do that without current and future volunteers willing to invest their time into the youth of Colorado Springs!
By contributing your time and talent, you can directly make an impact in a young person’s life.
To show our appreciation our volunteers receive:
-Discounted rates at our state-of-the-art indoor golf training center, The Learning Center
-Stay up-to-date with First Tee going on through our monthly newsletter, and our annual report
-Participate in fun volunteer outings
-Gain the satisfaction of changing lives!
